Kuala Lumpur, 5 October 2022 – Institut Sultan Iskandar (ISI) has organised a course on understanding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) for Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL). The course named “KURSUS PEMAHAMAN BERKAITAN MATLAMAT PEMBANGUNAN LESTARI (SDG) UNTUK DEWAN BANDARAYA KUALA LUMPUR” was held for two days starting from 4 October until 5 October 2022. The course was attended by 20 participants consisting of DBKL officers from the Landscape & Agriculture Unit and Planning Unit.

On the first day of the course, lined up six speakers who touched on topics related to the SDG role in local government, strengthening the role of local government in localising the SDG, capacity building, collaboration, and smart partnership, as well as the role of green networks and their influence on ecological, economic and social changes. The second day of the course started with a visit to the Sunway University (SDG Academy) SDG Living Lab, one of Sunway Group’s initiatives in creating a sustainable environment in their development area. In the afternoon, two more speakers presented topics related to the preparation of public parks and open spaces as well as the preservation of existing nature. The closing event of the course was completed with a token of appreciation to DBKL representative Ms Haizah Mahsuri binti Hj Hamdin, Landscape Architect at Institut Dewan Bandaraya, DBKL.

Ms Haizah Mahsuri also delivered very encouraging feedback from the participants. The participants hope this course can be extended with various other topics related to the SDGs and local authority.
