This research implemented a fuzzy logic method that incorporates knowledge of experienced plant operators and supervisors to deal with problem complexities. The combination of qualitative and quantitative data is used in the model development. In this case, the qualitative data is collected through several interview sessions, while quantitative data is gathered from plant documentation. The qualitative data is analysed using thematic analysis. The root causes of deodorizer failure are identified and includes in the model. As a result, a systematic step of required actions is suggested by the model when the failure occurred. The model can facilitates plant workers in diagnosing the root causes abnormalities and provides field training. Therefore, the fuzzy logic model is useful for the work of troubleshooting and implementation in palm oil refining as a stand-alone model.
