"RM6 million software donation to Petroleum Engineering Department, UTM”

Petroleum Experts Limited (known as Petex) (http://www.petex.com/) has provided their Integrated Production Modelling (IPM) software for educational purposes free of charge which is an equivalent of £1,105,430.00 (~ RM6,013,000) to the Department of Petroleum Engineering, Faculty of Petroleum & Renewable Energy Engineering for the Petroleum Engineering Modelling & Simulation Laboratory (PEMSL).

Petroleum Experts Limited is a petroleum engineering company, headquartered in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, which has successfully developed a set of commercial engineering software designed to improve the efficiency of oil and gas field operations. The software is currently used by numbers of oil & gas company operators.

The IPM suite of tools: GAP, PROSPER, MBAL, PVTP, REVEAL and RESOLVE can be run together seamlessly, allowing the engineer to design comprehensive and complete field models. The models can include various types of reservoir tanks, wells and managing surface gathering system. IPM can simply model and optimise the production and the water or gas injection system simultaneously. With the completion of reservoir, wells and comprehensive surface systems modelling and its corresponding match of production history, the production system can be fully optimised and production forecasts could be appropriately attained.

The IPM installed software facility is going to be used for the undergraduate and postgraduate students of petroleum engineering programs. It would provide progressive assistance to students in gaining the appropriate skills for future career development as it may assimilate the broad usage of the oil and gas industry worldwide.

The Universiti Teknologi Malaysia wishes to express its sincere gratitude and appreciation to Petroleum Experts for this valuable donation.
