Professor Dr. Ruzairi Abdul Rahim

Ruzairi Abdul Rahim received B.Eng. degree with Honours in Electronic System and Control Engineering in 1992 from Sheffield City Polytechnic, UK. He received his Ph.D in Instrumentation & Electronics Engineering from Sheffield Hallam University, UK in 1996. At present he is a Professor and a Director of Research Management Centre, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. His current research interests are process tomography and sensor technology. He actively involved in R&D and to date, he has filed 220 IPR including patent, copyrights, and industrial design. He has won many medals for his inventions and innovations at international and local research exhibition. He has also published more than 300 research articles in international journals and proceedings. He has appointed as Editor of Jurnal Teknologi and Chairman of Control, Instrumentaion and Mechatronics International Conferences 2006.

Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang

Prof. Zaini Ujang is a professional environmental engineer cum scientist who integrates studies on water ecology with engineering systems towards pollution control and sustainability, especially with reference to river rehabilitation in developing countries. His interest in the field leads him to collaborate with leading scholars worldwide, particularly in membrane bioreactor, granulation process and biofouling control.

At present he is leading the oldest technical university in Malaysia and South East Asia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He also sits on various boards, such as the Chemical Companies of Malaysia (CCM), Institute of Sultan Iskandar for Urban Habitat and High Rise Buildings, private universities Multimedia Technology Enhancement Operations Sdn Bhd (METEOR) and Chair of Proton Technology Advisory Council, a leading car manufacturer in South East Asia. For his remarkable contribution to the nation, he became the first recipient of the prestigious Malaysia Merdeka Award 2009 for the category of Outstanding Scholastic Achievement.

Zaini obtained his B.Eng. (Chem. Eng.) from UTM, and MSc and PhD in environmental engineering from University of Newcastle, UK. He is also an alumni of the Harvard Business School (AMP 177), a Fellow of the Academy of Science Malaysia, Senior Advisor to the Prince Khalid bin Sultan Chair on Water Research, King Saud University, Chairman of the Environmental Quality Council, Malaysia and Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers, UK. He has registered more than 20 intellectual property rights, published more than 250 technical papers and 27 books.

Professor Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail

Professor in Material and Manufacturing

Prof. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail holds a BSc in Petroleum Engineering, MSc in Chemical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and PhD in Chemical and Process Engineering from University of Strathclyde, UK under the Association of Commonwealth Universities Scholarship. He is the Founder and Head of Advanced Membrane Technology Research Center (AMTEC), UTM, Malaysia.

Currently he is the Dean of Research for Materials and Manufacturing Research Alliance, UTM. He has over 15 years experience in the development of membrane technology for reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration, membrane contactor and gas separation. The development of nanofibers and carbon nanostructured materials for energy related application is also of special interest. He is the author of over 100 refereed publications. He has also authored 2 books, 7 book chapters and 2 edited books.

He has won over 60 awards and one of the outstanding awards is the ASEAN Young Scientist Award in 2001.

Recent News about Prof. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail

Profesor Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail dinobatkan sebagai penerima Anugerah Inovasi Negara 2011 Kategori Produk sempena Persidangan dan Pameran Inovasi Kebangsaan (NICE) 2001 pada 15 dan 16 November lalu di Pusat Dagangan Dunia Putra (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur.

Beliau menerima hadiah wang tunai RM50 ribu.

Anugerah Inovasi Negara diadakan bertujuan mengiktiraf usaha inovasi dan kreativiti yang menjana idea, ciptaan produk siap dalam sains dan teknologi serta menyumbang kepada ekonomi negara.

Seluruh masyarakat UTM mengucapkan tahniah kepada Prof. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi.

 

National Council of Professors Launched

PUTRAJAYA 1 April – The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today launched the National Council of Professors , bringing together the expertise of 1426 professors from all the public institutions of higher learning in the country.

The role of the Council is to help the government by contributing input to various fields, in particular, to strengthen the foundations for formulating national policies and to ensure the success of the New Economic Model.

“I hope that the National Council of Professors will act as a platform to create a group of educators (‘Murabbi’), in the context of a modern university that is ever-growing and becoming more challenging,” he said during the launching ceremony at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).

‘Murabbi’ is an Arabic term that refers to a class of educators who not only teach a particular field of knowledge, but who also shape and mould the personality, attitudes and behavious of his students.

At the launching, the Prime Minister presented the instruments of appointment to the three highest ranking officials as well as the Heads of the respective clusters in the National Council of Professors.
