UTM Pemangkin Kemajuan Negara: Sejauh Mana Kejayaan?
Penubuhan sesuatu universiti adalah bertujuan bagi membantu pembangunan, kemajuan dan kesejahteraan sesuatu tempat, negeri, negara dan seterusnya menyumbang kepada kesejahteraan sejagat. Perkara ini jelas daripada pernyataan misi dan visi sesebuah universiti itu dan impak kewujudan universiti-universiti tersebut. Negara buat masa ini telah mempunyai lima university penyelidikan, empat universiti yang menekankan kepada kemahiran, beberapa universiti yang berfokus kepada aspek tertentu seperti pendidikan dan universiti-universiti komprehensif.
UTM yang bidang pengajian programnya berfokus kepada bidang kejuruteraan dan teknologi mempunyai sejarah yang cemerlang dari segi kemajuan akademik. Sejak ditubuhkan sebagai sebuah universiti dalam tahun 1975 lalu, UTM telah bergerak kehad pan dengan lancarnya sehingga berjaya mencapai status university penyelidikan dalam tahun 2010 lepas.
Kemajuan cemerlang UTM seharusnya juga memberi impak yang signifikan terhadap usaha kerajaan untuk menjadikan Malaysia sebagai sebuah negara maju berteraskan kepada kesejahteraan rakyat menjelang tahun 2020.  Setakat mana kewujudan UTM di Johor Bahru telah menyumbang kepada kemajuan Johor Bahru dan Johor secara umunya?  Sejauh mana pula kecemerlangan UTM dalam bidang kejuruteraan dan teknologi telah menyumbang dalam penjanaan ekonomi rakyat tempatan atau membantu menyelesaikan masalah yang dihadapi oleh rakyat.
Pandangan bijaksana Y.Bhg Profesor semua adalah sangat diharap-harapkan dalam membincang  perkara ini, di mana ia dapat menjana input-input penting bagi menyumbang kepada kemajuan negara dan kesejahteraan rakyat pada masa mendatang.
Sehubungan dengan itu, Majlis Profesor ingin mengalu-alukan kehadiran Y.Bhg Profesor  serta semua staf akademik dan bukan akademik untuk menyertai dalam program ini.

UTM Conferred Self-Accreditation Status

UTM Conferred Self-Accreditation Status

Johor Bahru, 13 April 2013 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has been conferred the self-accreditation status by the Ministry of Higher Education as announced by the Minister of Higher Education Dato’ Seri Khalid Nordin.

The status enables UTM to accredit its own academic programmes, except professional programmes that require accreditation and recognition by the relevant professional bodies.   More…

 

Professor Madya Dr. Abdul Manaf bin Hashim

Dr. Abdul Manaf Bin Hashim was born in Alor Setar, Kedah on December 15, 1971. He completed his elementary, secondary and high school education at Sekolah Kebangsaan Hutan Kampong, Sekolah Menengah Kepala Batas and Kolej Sultan Abdul Hamid, respectively. He received the Japanese language certificate from The Kansai International Student Institute, Osaka, Japan in March 1992. He received the Dip.Eng (Electronic Control) from Kumamoto National College of Technology, Japan in March 1995, B.Eng and M.Eng (Electronics) from Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan in March 1997 and March 1999, respectively and Dr.Eng (Electronics and Information Eng.) from Hokkaido University, Japan in March 2006. His undergraduate studies were fully sponsored by the Malaysia government under Look East Policy program. He was awarded a scholarship by the Makita International Foundation, Japan during his master studies and a Monbukagakusho scholarship by the Japanese government during his PhD studies. He joined Hokuriku Denki Kogyo Ltd., Japan in April 1999 and then moved to Malaysia’s branch, Hokuden (M) Sdn. Bhd. in May 1999 as a R&D engineer. In October 2001, he joined the Faculty of Electrical Engineering as a lecturer. He was promoted to senior lecturer and associate professor in 2007 and 2009, respectively.

He also served associate professor at the Department of Electronics, Kyushu University, Japan from August 2010 to August 2011. In October 2011, he moved to the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology and presently, he is an associate professor at the Department of Electronic Systems Engineering. In April 2006, he founded the Material Innovations and Nanoelectronics (MINE) Research Group.

He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a member of IEEE Electron Devices Society, a member of Japan Society of Applied Physics (JSAP), a member of Malaysia Society of Engineering and Technology (mSET), a life member of Malaysian Solid-State Science and Technology Society (MASS), a grad member of Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and a member of Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM). His research interests include plasma wave electronic devices; III-V based sensing devices, epitaxial growth using CVD, MBE and MOVPE technology, III-V nanostructure formation, quantum nanodevices, graphene and carbon nanotubes (CNTs). He has authored and co-authored many research papers in refereed journals and proceedings. His research works have been funded by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations (MOSTI) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia through various research grants and Brain Gain fellowships with a total amount of RM 2,477,500.00 since 2007. He was also awarded a grant by the Hitachi Foundation with the amount of Yen 4,387,127.00 to perform a research on the growth of single-crystalline Germanium on insulator (GOI) at Kyushu University. He serves as a reviewer for many well-known journals such as IEEE Electron Device Letters, Superlattices and Microstructures, etc. He initiates and leads the International Conference on Enabling Sciences and Nanotechnology (ESciNano) where he serves as conference co-chair and finance chair. He also serves as a committee member for many other major conferences such as ICSE, TENCON etc.

Presently, he is working towards an establishment of high-tech growth and fabrication facilities for semiconductor technologies in UTM. In 2010, his research entitled “Basic Study of Plasma Waves in 2DEG AlGaAs/GaAs Capacitively Coupled Interdigital-Gated Devices up to Terahertz Region” was selected as the best research for phase 1/2007 by MOHE due to significant and productive outcomes.
