kurikulum.

INDUSTRY EMPLOYERS’ PERSPECTIVES ON IPTA GRADUATES IN MALAYSIA

Employability skills refer to the non-technical skills or generic skills in which are highly demanded by the industrial employers. Employability skills are an important issue in the country. Graduates who do not possess employability skills are less likely to be hired by employers and it will be impacted for graduates to get a job after they graduate. In Malaysia, there are various perceptions related to employability skills regarding Private Institutions of Higher Learning (IPTS) graduate and Public Institutions of Higher Learning (IPTA) graduate. Social media, as well as research reports from studies conducted by various parties related to the ability of IPTA graduates, revealed that IPTA graduates have less employability skills than graduates from IPTS. As a result of these debates and reports, it has a little effect on the IPTA graduates’ market climate where many face difficulties in getting job offers from industry employers. Industry employers are more interested to hire IPTS graduates, as they view IPTS graduates are more skilled in various aspects of employability skills rather than IPTA graduates. This has led to many unemployed IPTA graduates, which will effect to the country’s development. To address the problem of unemployment among graduates, the Ministry of Education Malaysia has introduced a number of initiatives, which include in emphasizing entrepreneurship in the learning curriculum, empowering TVET program and embedded the student’s employability skills through the teaching and learning process, as well as co-curriculum activity.
