Key Amal Indicator (KAI) serves as an effective tool in observing change as a corollary of the strategic plan implementation. Using these comparable statistics, changes made to current processes can cultivate positive movement toward national prominence as identified within the strategic plan. KPIs allow the University community to monitor the extent to which UTM is approaching its organizational and strategic goals. Some of the KPIs represent simple headcounts or figures, while others can be more complex. In UTM, all KAIs representing the sustainability approach will emphasize the THREE pillars concept of sustainability, which are Economy, Social, and Environment. However, the initiative and program created are not only serving KAIs, with the coordination of the implementation of KAI empower all units/division in UTM their visibility and impactful towards campus community.
- The creation of Zero Waste Society’s circular economic action through the concept of 3R: Refuse, Respect, Responsible: To realize the concept of Zero Waste Society on campus, some of the initiatives to be implemented through the living lab (LL) are as follows: a) Stop use of single-use plastics; b) Convert food waste to compost through a fork-to-farm project;c) Manage green waste more efficiently; d) Managing other recyclable waste (solid and liquid) more securely
- Encourage initiatives to localize Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): As a research university (RU), UTM is committed to supporting the country’s efforts towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For the implementation of SDGs at the institutional level, UTM must first adjust the SDG 2030 agenda in-line with the local context, including identifying local challenges, identifying priorities for action, and establishing appropriate guidelines for measuring local development. Therefore, the six Key Focus Areas (KFAs) under the UTM Global Plan: Phase 3 (2018-2020) need to be aligned with the SDGs. To increase campus awareness of SDGs, the Campus Sustainability Office (UTMCS) has planned various initiatives to be implemented throughout 2020. Among them, awareness/roadshow awareness, exhibitions/competitions related to SDGs and sustainability audits. Additionally, students will be encouraged and supported to lead a variety of initiatives under the WWF FEE Eco Campus aimed at the various platforms of SDGs. On the other hand, research topics that contribute to the implementation of SDGs or finding solutions to the challenges should be encouraged.
- The transition to sustainable cultural acculturation through the application of the Living Lab concept: The following initiatives will be intensified in 2020 to encourage campus citizen to turn to more responsible practices such as: a) Fostering eco-friendly lifestyle (environmental aspects) through the Car-Free Zone program, on-campus tree planting (myTREEvolution), river preservation (Riverdale) and etc; b) Practice work-life balance through mutual assistance, aerobics, sustainable living, volunteerism, university social responsibility; and, c) Implement green (economic aspects) for the waste, water, energy and infrastructure sectors of SDGs or finding solutions to the challenges should be encouraged.
